nancy dussaultThe Coachella Valley Repertory's Aug. 25 “Luminary Luncheon” will feature an appearance by TV and stage actress Nancy Dussault, star of the 1980s sitcom “Too Close for Comfort” and one of the first two anchors of “Good Morning America.”

The monthly luncheons are hosted by a booster group for the performance group. Lunch will be served at noon at the BLU Ember Restaurant in the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, 41-000 Bob Hope Drive, in Rancho Mirage and will be followed by local radio host VJ Hume interviewing Dussault.

Best Beer in the Valley!

 

 

BEST BEER IN THE VALLEY!

Not only does Babe's Bar-B-Que have amazing BBQ--now they are gaining accolades for their brewing skills!

 

Babe's Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse at The River of Rancho Mirage took one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the L.A. International Commercial Beer Competition recently.  But they are not stranges to winning awards... check out The Best of the Best (Palm Springs Life), and Best of the Valley for years running! Great BBQ, and the best beer in the valley!

That brings the micro-brewery medal count for Babe's to eight in the last two years.

Babe's general manager, Arthur Vasquez, is happier than a pig in mud. Its “29 Palms Pale Ale,'' beat out Samuel Adams for the gold. Babe's got a silver in the German-style Schwarzbier category for the “Blackfin Lager.” Two bronzes went to “Babe's Honey Blond” and “Kilted Pig Wee Heavy Scotch” ale.

Nationally to Samuel Adams it's probably no big deal,'' Vasquez said. “Locally, it's become a bit of a rivalry” to out-do Sam the man.

Babe's micro-brewmaster, Scot Grabbe, tried not to appear all hopped up over the victory, saying some of it depends on how you place your beer. But clearly this Midwest college grad who got his start in 1994 with a home brew kit and a stint at Rock Bottom Brewery loves his work... and loves brewing the best beer in the valley!

Just ask his son, Porter.

Brandini Toffee Opens First Retail Store in Rancho Mirage

I first tried Brandini Toffee when they offered samples at Costco.... I was hooked!  I would purchase the Toffee and give it as a Hostess Gift, or share with guests visiting the Desert.  Then a few years later, I hired Leah Post's father to help me launch my LivetheDesertLife.com website.  Look how far they have come!


As high school students they were the youngest to win the gourmet food industry's highest award, they appeared on The Martha Stewart Show, were one of Martha Stewart's Best Desserts 2008 and selected for Oprah's O-List online. Now the teenage entrepreneurs have opened their first retail store and toffee factory.

After four years of toffee production, valley favorite Brandini Toffee announced the Grand Opening of their first retail location. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm and the mayor of Rancho Mirage was in attendance. The 5,200 sq. ft. facility features a display production kitchen and packing area, retail toffee case and plenty of pictures of the Brandini Kids. The toffee shop is located at 42-560 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, CA on the corner of Highway 111 and Magnesia Falls Dr.

Both Brandini Kids were back from their freshman year of college to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and hand out samples of Brandini Toffee. All products were discounted by 20% for the Grand Opening and tours of the facility were given throughout the day.

Brandini Toffee was an idea conceived by Brandon "Brandini" Weimer and Leah Post during their sophomore year in high school as a way to pay for a school trip to Italy. They earned enough for tickets and spending money within 6 weeks, a new business was born.

Since its inception, Brandini Toffee has received numerous accolades including Best Dessert 2008 by Martha Stewart. They also appeared on The Martha Stewart Show in early 2008, sharing with their families a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York. Brandini Toffee was included on Oprah's O-List online in 2008, won the Sofi Gold for "Outstanding Chocolate 2008" by the NASFT, and were voted Desert Magazine's - Best Chocolate Shop 2009 by residents of the Palm Springs area.

Brandini Toffee can be purchased online or in gourmet food stores, hotels and wineries from Trump Plaza to Napa Valley. Family and friends also sell at various west coast events and Costco Roadshows throughout Southern California.
