Come early and have dinner at one of Old Town's restaurants before the show - or order your food to-go and enjoy your meal with the movie! Old Town Artisan Studio will provide a free kids activity near Old Town Coffee Company starting at 7 p.m.  Children under age 13 must be supervised. 

About the movie:  The main plot in this musical comedy centers around hard rock singer and guitarist, Dewey Finn (portrayed by Jack Black), who is unanimously kicked out of his band and subsequently disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and forms a band of fifth-grade students to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands so he can pay his rent for his apartment.

 Hanging out in Old Town La Quinta is now even cooler - just in time for summer. Old Town La Quinta welcomes Cool Options - a new gelato, sorbetto and ice cream shop opening TODAY in Old Town La Quinta.

"After the recent closing of Baskin Robbins in La Quinta, it's great to have new 'Cool Options' in the community," said Leslie Locken, property manager of Old Town La Quinta. "We're excited to provide a gathering place for kids, seniors - and everyone in between - to enjoy refreshing treats."

Cool Options will be offering a menu of Palazzolo'a gelato and sorbetto, Clemmy's all-natural and sugar free ice cream, homemade gelato pies, a Cool Options smoothie as well as beverages such as Panna, Pelligrino, Izze Italian Soda, Orangina and iced tea.

What's more, Cool Options is one of very few places to enjoy gelato in the desert. Gelato is European-style ice cream that has very little air whipped into it and is made from a lower butterfat cream than most super premium ice creams. By using less air, there's no need to use a high butterfat - which eliminates the greasy palate caused by a lot of fat. Today we tried out the "dulce la leche", "coconut, almond, fudge", and the "white chocolate raspberry cheesecake"!  Yummmy!

We had a great time at the first annual TASTE OF LA QUINTA! According to the Desert Sun... the event was extremely popular!  Can't wait for next year!

The La Quinta Chamber of Commerce held its first Taste of La Quinta on Saturday on Main Street in Old Town La Quinta.

During the one-day event, attendees could purchase a block of tickets to sample food for $25. The tickets provided 15 food samples per person — and sold out two hours into the event, officials said.

The brainchild of Bruce Franklin, chairman of the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce, the Taste of La Quinta attracted people from across the Coachella Valley.

Our favorites were the braisesd short ribs over fingerling potatoes, with crispy sweet onions-- provided by Morgan's at the La Quinta Resort... and the ceviche tostada and fish tacos by The Adobe Grill!

Art Under the Umbrellas shows are one day events located in Old Town La Quinta from 10am to 4pm on designated Saturdays. These popular events attract Coachella Valley residents (including our annual population of snowbirds), visitors, and hotel guests. For additional ambiance, live music and wine tasting are provided. Free admission and ample parking.

Fifty to seventy artists participate at each Art Under the Umbrellas event, located along the closed-off streets of this charming outdoor venue reminiscent of colonial Mexico. This makes for an enjoyable day outdoors perusing artist wares, exploring Old Town shops, and dining in Old Town restaurants. Art patrons will find quality artwork, while tourists will discover treasured mementos.
